ABOUT PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession directed at evaluating, restoring and maintaining physical function and fitness.
Physiotherapy is an autonomous profession. We do not require a referral from a doctor to assess and treat you. Although you are not required to see a doctor, physiotherapists do work closely with physicians, sport medicine doctors as well as surgeons. We will communicate with them to ensure you receive the best treatment and investigations required to properly treat your injury/condition.
Physiotherapists are rehabilitation specialists trained to help when you have pain and/or dysfunction with your neuromuscular and musculoskeletal systems (that is your muscles, joints, tendons, ligaments, bones, nerves or myofascial system). Physiotherapists are taught to evaluate, interpret and diagnose problems, injuries or ‘syndromes’ for all areas of the body. Physiotherapists are trained in a wide variety of ‘non-medicinal’ and non-surgical or ‘conservative’ treatment techniques to affect the healing of the musculoskeletal system and the restoration of its optimal function.
You may benefit from Physiotherapy if you have:
● acute or chronic pain
● reduced function from a neuromuscular/musculoskeletal condition (arthritis, nerve impingement, etc.)
● an acute injury from an accident - sports, work (WCB), motor vehicle (MPI) or otherwise
● had surgery for your joints, ligaments or tendons
● reduced muscle strength, endurance or trigger points
● a repetitive strain injury
● poor posture
● vertigo and/or dizziness
● headaches
● and much more...
Physiotherapy is appropriate for people of all ages and lifestyles. Your program is personalized to you. Be sure to talk to your physiotherapist about the goals you hope to achieve with your physiotherapy treatments and together you will come up with a beneficial, specific, and measurable treatment plan.
